Case Studies
Some jobs I’ve tackled

Fire safety advice and guidance; Housing; Corporate buildings; Building works; Fire safety training; Fire risk assessments (FRAs)
I’ve worked with Basildon Council for over 10 years. At first, I provided fire safety guidance and advice on housing premises, like tower blocks and sheltered housing buildings. But in the last few years, I’ve also looked at corporate properties like their theatre, the town hall and various leisure facilities. I’ve advised on building works (including materials to be used and good practices) and provided training in fire safety topics like fire stopping and suppression systems. I’ve also carried out fire risk assessments on most of their buildings, including a Grade II listed tower block in the centre of the town.

Fire risk assessments (FRAs); Fire marshal training; Fire safety training; Building regulations compliance advice; Fire engineering
I provide Bloor Homes with fire risk assessments (FRAs) for their office buildings, fire marshal training for office staff and fire training for construction site staff including managers. I also provide guidance on compliance with the fire safety part of the building regulations for houses and blocks of flats, as well as carrying out post build snagging and FRAs.

Fire risk assessments (FRAs); Fire policy guidance; Fire safety training
Heath Mount School is an independent prep school for mixed pupils between the ages of 3 and 13, including some boarding. It’s in a gorgeous Georgian country mansion in the Hertfordshire countryside and has parts that are Grade I and Grade II listed. I’ve provided fire risk assessments, fire policy guidance, fire safety training (including the use of fire extinguishers), and guidance in the best ways to protect staff, pupils and the heritage of the building.

Fire safety guidance; Fire risk assessments (FRAs); Fire awareness and fire marshal training
I‘ve provided fire safety guidance to the facilities team and other managers within the group, and have been carrying out fire risk assessments for all the organisation’s English buildings. These include additional organisations that they’ve taken over as part of their expansion into other areas of laboratory testing. I also provide fire awareness and fire marshal training for various companies within the group.

Fire engineering; Building regulation compliance advice; Mid-build inspections; Fire Strategy design and documentation
I write fire design strategy documents for some of the buildings Wildgoose Construction build, such as Care Homes, and act as a fire engineer within the RIBA plan of work. This involves liaison with the architects, M&E service providers, and building control, as well as individual sub-contractors.
I have provided advice and guidance to them on removing parts of designs that architects have put in that don’t need to be there, but also advised on things that did need to be there, especially with all the changes in fire safety guidance that are currently in the building regulations.
